An iPhone, an iPad and a Mac
Are you getting it? These are not three separate devices.
Jason Snell, on this week’s episode of Upgrade, apropos the rumored folding iPhone:
I use the iPad more than my phone, but the phone is obligatory. Is there a world in which I no longer have to have a phone that I also put in my pocket when I leave the house, but mostly I use the iPad? Could this be that product?
It is my iPad and it’s my iPhone at once. So if they can make a case like that, that it’s like, this is also the iPad, I would love to see that.
But with Apple Silicon now powering Macs, why stop at iPhone and iPad?
I know the idea of a dockable computer has been tried countless times, but what if the combination of Apple Silicon and cloud storage now makes it not only possible, but seamless (pardon the folding pun)?
You buy one $2,000-ish device from Apple. When folded, it’s your phone. Unfolded, it’s your iPad. Plug it into a monitor, and it’s your Mac.
Without a fan, or a plethora of performance cores, you probably wouldn’t want to edit a Hollywood movie on it. But a YouTube video? That feels doable
